Blogging is Not Dead
Despite what you may have heard, blogging is not dead. There are a ton of reasons to continue blogging, but a few include: upping your SEO game, having content to repurpose for social media platforms, and to make money (affiliate marketing). But, there is a better way to blog to make sure your content is getting seen and to increase the likelihood of making money off of a post or getting a lead. I have gone through a lot of trial and error with blogging and have found that this format works well! So here is how to write the perfect blog post.
Key Points to Have in a Blog Post
- Catch reader’s attention right away with a great headline
- Use high-quality images (1-3 images is usually enough depending on the topic and length of the post)
- Make sure the content in the body of the blog is relevant and engaging
- Utilize subheadings to help walk the reader through the post
- Include a call to action (CTA) – what action do you want the reader to take as a result of the blog post? Good to have in multiple parts of the post, but definitely in your conclusion!
The Anatomy of the Perfect Blog Post
1. Introduction
The introduction of your blog post should be a few sentences that include keywords, describe what the post is about, and how it will be helpful to the reader. If you need a refresher on what keywords are and why they’re important, check out this blog post.
2. Body
The body of your blog post should provide valuable information for the reader. It is in the body of the blog post you can include links to other blog posts for additional information (also known as backlinks) or add the links for your affiliate programs. Make sure all of these links open in a new window so people are not moved off of your website! And, you are using affiliate links make sure to include any sales that may be relevant to incite a sense of urgency and be sure to discuss how the product has improved your life.
3. Conclusion
Summarize the blog in a couple of sentences and provide a CTA to purchase your product, reach out about a service, or share the blog post with someone else. The conclusion is also a great place to offer a freebie (downloadable, youtube video, podcast, etc.) that is related to the topic of the blog post!
The Perfect Blog Post Wrap-Up
Your blog posts don’t have to be long to be effective when following the perfect blog post template outline above. Give a quick introduction that outlines the topic and how it is helpful to the reader. Make sure the body of the blog post provides the valuable information, includes backlinks, and shares any affiliate links. And lastly, your conclusion should summarize the blog post in a couple of sentence and include a call to action.
